In the spring of 2025, I settled in to rank the Sherlock Holmes stories. I found the task congenial. So congenial did I find it, that I ended up writing a book’s length work about them: Wherever Fact May Lead Me. I still had a bit of energy, so I wrote a preface. Then I decided that I was not yet done, so I ranked the villains too.
For those readers who are as avid and passionate about the Holmes stories as I am, I hope you’ll find the list rewarding. That’s certainly how I found the creation of it to be.
